Instructional design is often overlooked. Creating a useful learning experience – one where the students learn and are able to use that knowledge – isn’t about flash videos or bulleted slides with 3D charts in rainbow colors. Instructional design is a necessary first step; it must come before building the training pieces.
You can jump right in and start creating content (many people do)…but you’ll have a better product in less time if you start with “What would I like to teach?”, “Why?”, “How will I teach it?”, “What other content and skills do I need?”, and “Do I have the time to do it?”.
So, before we build your courses, we’ll want to know:
- Who is this training for? Who are the students?
- What do you want them to learn?
- What do you want them to do with that knowledge?
- How do they learn?
- What resources do they have?
We’ll work with you to determine your objectives, goals, and constraints for your training initiative. We’ll design the Perfect Mix of…
- Online, Face-to-Face, & Offline (books, for instance)
- Synchronous (everyone at the same time) & Asynchronous (self-paced, at any time)
- Multi-media usage (audio, video, props)
- Team & Individual efforts
- Teacher-involved or not
- Classroom, Lab, & Field
…to fit your audience, your budget, and your objectives.
